Think water is your friend?
Water is a great tool for fighting fires. It extinguishes flames by displacing air
and its oxygen. And, a well placed fog pattern is the quickest way to knock
down heat because the water droplets absorb so much thermal energy.
But, beware of the steam blow back, and beware of wet gear.

Water is your enemy, too!
Besides adding lots of weight to your clothing, water absorbs heat and stores
it because it is so dense. When water from sweat, hose streams, or rain is
sucked into your bunker gear, it displaces the insulating air. That's not a good thing!

explosive energy in the form of dangerous steam. But water can

Air is lighter than water and, because of its lower density, it's a very poor heat
conductor. As air heats, it expands and becomes even less dense. Air is stable
and predictable. It is simply the best insulator.
