| NOMEX® IIIA contains 5% KEVLAR® to reduce
thermal "breakopen" and 2% carbon to reduce static buildup. It is an inherently
flame-resistant and self-extinguishing meta-aramid. Available in duck weave
construction in a variety of colors, as well as undyed natural (off-white.)
Colors can change due to heat and ultra violet rays.
A moderately-priced workhorse fabric with excellent resistance to rips, tears, and abrasion. NOMEX® IIIA has lower thermal stability, under extreme temperatures than many other outer shells because it contains a lower percentage ok KEVLAR®, the "muscle fiber" in most turnout gear. |
| NOMEX® IIIA decomposes at >700 degrees F. |
|
|
| PBI® Gold is a blend of 40% PBI® and 60% KEVLAR®. This premium priced shell is the standard by which all others are judged. |
| PBI® retains fiber integrity and suppleness after repeated flame exposures and has a good abrasion resistance. |
| KEVLAR® is the backbone of most state-of-the-art textiles for thermal performance It is extremely strong and durable. |
| PBI® decomposes at >1000 degrees F.
KEVLAR® decomposes at >900 degrees F. |
|
|
| Advance® is a blend of 40% NOMEX® and 60% KEVLAR®. It is available in several colors in a plain weave with pronounced "ripstop" for added strength. A medium priced outer shell with good thermal insulation properties at a sensible weight. |
| KEVLAR® decomposes at >900 degrees F.
NOMEX® IIIA decomposes at >700 degrees F. |
|
|
| Fusion® is a balanced blend of producer-dyed KEVLAR® and producer dyed NOMEX® in a rugged ripstop. Producer dyeing delivers better color performance and consistency, but also reduces stress on the fabric from finishing. Includes Teflon® F/PPE durable water resistance from Dupont (developed just for firefighting PPE). |
| KEVLAR® decomposes at >900 degrees F.
NOMEX® IIIA decomposes at >700 degrees F. |
|
|
| PBI® Gold Plus is similar to regular PBI® in flame resistance, but is woven of finer two-ply yarns in a tighter weave. This "plus" goes beyond the construction and weight advantages. It includes an extremely durable water repellency and superior abrasion resistance. |
| PBI® decomposes at >1000 degrees F.
KEVLAR® decomposes at >900 degrees F. |
